New Directions for Veterans helps homeless veterans obtain employment by providing a complete set of services and resources to enhance their job search skills and increase employability. Our workforce development process features:
JOB CLUB & CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING
Participants complete a comprehensive pre-employment class that prepares veterans to successfully obtain and maintain employment. The instruction includes an intensive workshop that teaches veterans how to provide excellent customer service to customers and co-workers.
JOB SEARCH
Our Job Developers assist veterans at every step in their employment process, including resume development, job search and referrals, and interview preparation.
SHORT-TERM VOCATIONAL TRAINING
Sometimes a veteran needs to refresh or update a skill or learn a new one. We help by providing short-term training for in-demand jobs in such fields as nursing, computer basics (through a partnership with Santa Monica College), and construction.
EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS & TUTORING
Assessments are offered in reading, writing and math. Our one-on-one tutoring sessions are tailored to meet each veteran’s needs.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES
Through a special grant provided by the US Department of Labor, we also provide services and materials such as interview clothing, transportation, and work tools needed to help veterans succeed in securing and sustaining employment.
