As of the 2011 Greater LA Homeless Count, there were 856 homeless veterans in East Los Angeles County. Forty-five percent (45%) of all homeless veterans in LA County are over age 55. East LA Community Corporation (ELACC), a well-established developer of affordable housing in East LA, partnered with New Directions for Veterans (NDVets) to create permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans age 55 and over.
The complex consists of 32 one-bedroom units for veterans, and a one-bedroom manager’s unit. All of the units will be reserved for homeless senior (55+) veterans with disabilities. The site, formerly occupied by a church, is on a quiet residential street and is well situated for senior housing.
